A cat that disappeared in 1997 has now been reunited with her owner ten years after she went missing. Lynx turned up at an animal sanctuary 60 miles away from her home. The animal sanctuary was able to track down her owner because Lynx had been micro chipped.

This odd looking fruit is a Rambutan. I came across it in Tesco the other day and thought I would try it. From Thailand it’s a rather difficult fruit to get into but once you have peeled off the spiky outer skin it’s much the same as a lychee only bigger and perhaps a little sweeter.

Tesco have announced its latest step in their move towards world domination, not content with being the biggest supermarket in the UK, they have now decided to move into the property market. Their property sales service will let sellers list their homes on a Tesco website for a fee of £200. Sellers will also get a Tesco branded for sale sign to put outside their house. The idea is that the website will be for private sellers and Tesco say it will save them money and is a real alternative to instructing an agent. It will be interesting to see if there are any hidden fees when its launched.

I came across this article which looks at how cats became domesticated. It suggests that cats actually domesticated themselves because being near people they were never short on food. The association between people and cats appears to stem from the fact that cats fed on the rodents that fed on the grain stored by people. Eventually some cats became tolerant of human contact and these cats found that rewards such a bowl of milk or a dry place to sleep came as a result of being close to people. These cats then began to breed in larger numbers because more kittens survived. The article makes for interesting reading. So basically the conclusion is my cats love me because I feed them, tell me something I didn't know.

After managing to eat 15 fried breakfasts, thats an amazing 30 sausages, 20 rashers of bacon, 15 fried eggs and three tins of beans, he still found room to eat six bowls of cereal.

If you read my husband's blog you will know that our wheelie bin was stolen a few months ago. Bearing this in mind I found this article interesting. A wheelie bin which belongs to Peterborough City Council apparently turned up 1,200 miles away in Bulgaria. The bin was spotted by a council employee whilst she was on holiday. She was surprised to see the council's logo clearly in place. It makes me wonder where my bin ended up. Perhaps it is also sunning itself on a beach 1000 miles away.

I read this article about five kittens that were left to die in a bin. Due to the heavy rain the bin had filled with water and the poor things were left struggling to survive as the water got higher. The weakest of the kittens had lost their fight for survival and died before anyone found them; the other three were found desperately trying to stay afloat.

It always makes me so angry to read an article like this, in my opinion if you are responsible pet owner and you don’t want any kittens, you get your cat neutered. There should be no excuse for unwanted kittens. It strikes me that some people in today’s society need may need further education before they should be allowed to own an animal. Just as there is no excuse for having unwanted kittens, there is also no excuse for treating an animal like a piece of rubbish. Kittens never stay at animal shelters for long and I’m sure the three surviving kittens will soon find a loving home, its just a shame that a callous person caused the death of their siblings with needless cruelty.

The three surviving kittens.

Its getting to that time of year when cat owners like myself need to start thinking about flea control. Fleas can be a real nuisance especially in a multi-cat household. With four cats if one cat gets fleas, then soon the whole house is infested. I usually find that prevention is better than cure, if at all possible. I am careful to change my cats flea collars every few months and so far we have been flea free for nearly two years, fingers crossed.

However, with pets it’s inevitable you will have to deal with fleas at some point. I found this useful website called fleascontrol.com that has a flea control guide to help you get rid of annoying fleas. The website has useful tips on what remedies work such as flea collars for prevention and flea shampoo and powder for tackling the problem. It also has useful information for removing fleas from the home to try and prevent further outbreaks.

Lastly just reheat it.

My cat Oscar has always suffered from runny eyes ever since we got him form the rescue centre nearly three years ago. Unfortunately the vet has said Oscar will always have the problem and there is nothing they can do to correct it. Oscar is such a happy cat, he is always pouncing on things and he is very affectionate, despite his eye problem. He does, however, get very moody when his eyes need cleaning. As you can see from the picture Oscar has runny eyes and is feeling very sorry for himself. A simple wipe of his eyes with the soothing eye wipes from the pet store or a clean tissue and Oscar is his usual happy self and back to pouncing.

My first case arrives in September, so I am interested to see how the service works for me and also if their money back guarantee is as good as it seems. More updates on this to follow.

I read this article today that suggests poor quality beef from milking cows is often been sold to customers as prime fresh cuts. The National Beef Association has written to the four big supermarkets to ask them to check that their customers are not being misled. The problem is that the meat from dairy cows tends to be tougher than prime beef and some wholesalers are selling this cheaper meat on as prime cuts to boost their profits. I'm not sure whether there is any truth is these claims but I have often brought beef from a supermarket and been disappointed by the quality, finding it rather tough and tasteless.

Sadly, it appears that the male Osprey has now trampled on the chick and killed it whilst trying to free himself from some fishing line. Waterbeds can be beneficial for a number of reasons. They offer total body support so you can sleep with greater comfort. They also have a hygienic surface, so dust mites are unable to thrive on them; a great alternative if you are allergic to dust mites. waterbeds also offer a more controllable sleeping temperature. You may think that a waterbed will not be very durable but they can actually last up to 15 years because unlike an ordinary bed there are no springs to break down. Bearing this in mind now is a good time to visit my waterbed shop they currently have a sale on their waterbeds and also offer free shipping

A very interesting article here. Apparently there are two types of people. An A-person is one who rises early in the morning and a B-person is one who finds it hard to function in the morning and works best later in the day. With this in mind Denmark is starting to introduce a new way of working. Some offices allow employees to simply turn up for work when they want to, meaning that when they do arrive for work, they are at their most productive. A school in Copenhagen is also following suit with lessons that start later in the day for B-people. It seems a very interesting way to work. I am more of an A-person myself, I like to have an early start and find my concentration is worse in the afternoon. I think my husband would agree with this way of working, however, he finds it hard to get out of bed in morning, so he must be a B-person.

It’s that time of year when the cats are moulting and we have fur everywhere. To try and combat that we brush our cats or at least we try to. Ollie is by far the most furry of our four cats but he is a little sensitive (mild understatement) when it comes to be brushed. As soon as Ollie sees you approaching with brush in hand he starts a high pitched wailing noise and tries to get as far away from you as possible. It’s usually best to chase him outside because when he starts this wailing his party trick is to poo on the floor to punish you for scaring him. Obviously this is easier to clean up outside. The brushing process usually goes something this:

Step One: Chase Ollie into garden and shut all entrances to the house.

Step Two: Chase Ollie around the garden with brush in hand whilst he continually wails at you (the wailing noise sounds like is being strangled and I’m sure if anyone walked past they would assume I had my hands around his neck).

Step Three: When you manage to get close enough to Ollie quickly brush him as many times as you can whilst avoiding claws and teeth.

Step Four: Keep repeating steps one through to three until; either the Ollie has been brushed and the loose fur has been removed; or Ollie starts making a low growling noise in his throat. This is the sign that he has had enough grooming for one day and will bite you.

Ollie glaring at me after being brushed.

The evil brush with some fresh Ollie fur in it.

A lady in Essex managed to grow a pineapple by putting the top part of a pineapple fruit in water and then planting it when it grew roots. I'm off to Tesco next week to buy myself a pineapple to try growing one myself.

If you are prone to allergies then is the time of year they generally start acting up. You can help prevent many allergies by investing in humidifiers, or helping healthy living with an air purifier or even using a specialised vacuum cleaner. www.bestvacuum.com specialises in all of these devices. You can buy various humidifiers that remove impurities from the air whilst also humidifying the air at the same time. Their vacuum cleaners also cover a variety of problems, I have recently purchased a Dyson animal which having four cats I find great for picking up the handfuls of fur they leave behind when they are shedding their fur during the summer.

Marks and Spencer and BHS have just announced they will sell a new range of school uniforms. Whilst that in itself is not unusual, these unifroms will be made from recycled plastic which has been melted and woven into yarn. The end result is a range of fleeces, shirts, trousers and skirts that will go on sale this summer. The whole uniform will cost around £20.

A truck driver managed to drive four miles along a motorway with a man in a wheelchair stuck to the front of his lorry. The wheelchair with its passenger became stuck to the front grille of the truck when it stopped for gas. The truck driver then drove off at speeds of around 50 mph and was pulled over by the police four miles later to be told there was a man in a wheelchair stuck to his truck. The man in the wheelchair was not hurt but he did spill the soda he had been drinking.

You would expect the police to be very aware of simple security measures such as locking doors and windows but it seems not all policemen are. A police station in Northern Ireland was burgled after police officers went on patrol and left the windows unlocked and the alarm switched off. Great security guys.

Apparently if you want to lose weight a greek diet could be the key. A study showed that a typical meal in Greece contained the least calories when compared to other holiday destinations. I don't know about that, but when I went to Greece the food was no nice I had second helpings of everything.

If like me you live near an airport, in my case its Heathrow, you might be interested in the new website just launched by BAA. Covering Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted it allows people to see which flights fly over a particular area. So now when a plane flies over your house at six a clock in the morning or disrupts a peaceful day in the garden you can use this handy website to see exactly what plane it is and even how high its flying.

When I got my bread maker around six years ago I thought at the time it would be one of those gadgets that you use a few times and then it gets pushed to the back of the cupboard. During the first two or three years we used it to make all of our bread and never purchased any bread in the supermarket. Whilst we don't use it quite that often more, preferring to only make fresh bread at the weekends, it still gets put to regular use in the making of pizza dough. I like the fact that its so easy. Just put the flour, yeast, salt, sugar and water into the bread maker and leave it whilst you do something else. After an hour or so, you have perfect pizza dough. Then just add the toppings of your choice. I added tomato, mozzarella, red peppers and pepperoni to mine. Pictured here is the result before I put it the oven. When this bread maker eventually dies I will be sure to replace it. Certainly a gadget I can't do without.

Mobile phones with cow ringtones are being used to lure leopards away from human settlements in India. Forest guards have downloaded animal ringtones for their mobile phones which they then attach to loudspeakers behind a cage. The leopard attracted by the sound of mooing then gets trapped inside when it comes looking for its lunch. The trapped leopards are all released back into the forest.

It seems when there is a full moon there are more violent incidents reported. That's according to the Sussex police force who have started putting more police officers on the street of Brighton when there is a full moon because of the sharp rise in trouble reported. It appears that lunar gravity encourages people out when there is a full moon. There have been no reports of anyone turning into wolves yet though.

If you think the rivers are polluted in UK you might be shocked by this picture. The river Citarum in West Java seems to be more rubbish than river. The river that provides the main source of drinking water for cities such as Jakarta is polluted with rotting rubbish from the homes and factories surrounding it. In fact the river is so polluted there are fears that the hydropower stations in the area may start corroding. Not only that, pollution here is likely to double by 2025.

I found this website SendMeScent.com that offers a wide range of perfume and aftershave. Personally I wear perfume every day and tend to have seven or eight different bottles open at any one time, so I’m always looking to try new fragrances. My favourite at the moment is Be Delicious by DKNY on sale here for only £34.50 which is quite a saving from the RRP of £48.95. Other favourites of mine are Cool Water by Davidoff and Rush by Gucci both available here at cheaper prices than you would find on the high street. If you are in no hurry for your purchase you can get free second class delivery or alternatively pay an extra £5.95 for next day delivery within the UK. You can also add gift wrapping at the checkout if it’s for a present.

I read this interesting article on Web Worker Daily about the nine best practices for working from home. I can identify with most of the nine points. As someone who works from home most of the time I find that I regularly work until late at night, just because my computer is so close. Its also difficult to switch off at weekends and I tend to find that all my time is spent working. The article also highlights the problem that friends and relatives often assume you not busy just because you are at home. Once again I find that some of friends tend to assume its ok to pop round in the afternoon and although it is nice to them it does usually mean I have work all evening to make up the lost time. Its clear to me from reading the article I still have to find the balance between my work and my personal life.

I found this interesting website where a guy has managed to attach a camera to his cat. The camera is set to take a picture every two minutes so by the end of the day he has a picture diary of what the cat has been up to during the day. Very interesting I must try this with my cats.

We had to break into our house yesterday after Rory lost his key. This involved us having to force open a small window so we could open a larger window from the outside. Rory then crawled through the larger window to open the door from the inside. It amazed me that someone of Rory's size could fit through the window but he managed it. Rory later found the key in his pocket so it was all for nothing in the end.

It did however, make me think about security. You naturally think your house is very secure but when you can break into your own house within 20 minutes it makes you wonder how long it would take a burglar to do it. It’s certainly the last time I leave the house unattended with even the smallest window open. Next time we lock ourselves out, we will have to call a lock smith as there will be no open windows to crawl through.

If you are planning a trip to Ireland and like me find it hard to survive with no internet access you might want to visit Carlow. A project run by the council in partnership with E-net has introduced 24 hour wireless access to all of its main streets making it one of the first towns in the EU to offer open air web access.

The European Commission is looking to relax rules that currently stop farmers feeding animals on the carcasses of other animals. This practice was stopped seven years ago because of the links with BSE and the fact that it was widely spread by feeding the remains of infected cows to other cattle. Apparently the commission is going to investigate the safety of feeding pig meal to chickens and vice versa. The reason they want to reintroduce the practice is to save money, it is cheaper to feed farm animals on the remains of other animals rather than on expensive vegetable protein. Sainsbury's and Asda have already said they will not sell livestock fed on animal by-products. I know where I will be doing my meat shopping if the ban is lifted.

I read this interesting article. When rebuilding a driveway Peter William Eaves came across some crabs that had apparently lived under the concrete for 40 years with no water. A total of thirteen live crabs were found under the driveway. The strange thing about this story is that the nearest sea water is 4km away. Scientists are trying to find out how they got there and more importantly how they survived for so long.

The RSPB has removed the word "cock" from its website as it has been deemed offensive. Apparently in todays society we are now unable to refer to male birds by their correct name. A cock robin must now be referred to as a male robin.

We all get the stage when we need a bit more living space. For one man in India that should never be a problem. Mukesh Ambani India's richest man is building a 60 storey palace which will include a helipad, health club, a home theatre and six floors of car parking. The palace will house his 600 full time staff and his family.
