The poor winter has meant huge losses of bee colonies according to this article. It suggests that this winter losses of honey bee colonies were the worst since records began six years ago. More than a third of colonies did not survive the cold and wet conditions. I would be interested to know how we go about encouraging bees to our gardens. I certainly have no shortage in mine at the moment with the fruit trees and wildflowers being covered in them but they are so important for the crops.
