According to this article the Alaotra grebe has now been confirmed as extinct. The last sighting of the bird was in 1985. The species from Madagascar lived in Lake Alaotra. It is thought it has been killed off by a combination of poaching and predatory fish. It is thought to be the first confirmed bird extinction since 2008.
